Monon Trail

History

The Monon Trail follows the abandoned rail bed of the Indianapolis, Delphi & Chicago Railroad Company organized in 1869.

The Chicago & Indianapolis Air Line Railroad Company purchased the stock of the original company in March, 1881. It was later absorbed by the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago Railroad formerly known as New Albany & Salem Railroad the first railroad in Indiana.

This entire rail organization became known as the Monon because its 2 main lines, Michigan City to Louisville and Chicago to Indianapolis, crossed at Monon, Indiana.

Classic Railroads You Can Model

Did you know that the Monon Trail runs right through the middle of Bethlehem? Yes, that’s right. Before it was renamed Carmel, Indiana, this location was named Bethlehem.

Why should that be important to you?

May Yahweh bless you.
